I was honoured to be part of the judging panel last year and was privileged to read the huge number of entries highlighting the fantastic work carried out by nursing staff from the farthest reaches of rural Scotland to our urban centres. It was clear that there is so much innovation and excellence to celebrate.
The Awards are a huge opportunity to showcase the best of nursing, and you, Scotland’s nursing staff, deserve the recognition and attention for stepping up every day to care for your patients and clients.
Of course, it will be fantastic to celebrate the winners in our 13 categories and our overall winner of Nurse of the Year, but these awards are a chance for all those nominated to be recognised for the work they do.
Every day, nursing staff do their best and often don’t think they are doing anything out of the ordinary. By submitting a nomination for a colleague or yourself, you can not only boost morale for the nominee but also highlight the essential and inspiring work of the nursing team.
Talking with our shortlisted nominees last year highlighted just how much their confidence and pride was boosted by being recognised, giving them that fire to continue going the extra mile and pushing for nursing excellence.
Whether you have the confidence to put yourself forward, or you know of a colleague who is making a difference where you work, even in a small way, I’d encourage you to submit a nomination in a relevant category.
Now is not the time to be modest or shy, this is your opportunity to shout from the rafters about the best of nursing in Scotland.
Good luck to everyone who is nominated, I can’t wait to read about all the wonderful nursing staff we have working here.
