A new report released today about global nursing entitled ‘The State of the World’s Nursing 2020 provides a comprehensive view into the largest health care workforce.
Commenting on the Report which is released on World Health Day, Denise Llewellyn MBE FRCN, Chair of the RCN Wales Board, said:
“Today we celebrate all members of the nursing family, nurse led services and the contribution of Nursing to Health Care around the world. Nurses are generally seen as the health care professionals at the forefront in provision of care of patients and remain with patients and their families when they are at their most vulnerable.
For nurses around the world we are all experiencing profound challenges! Nurses across the health and social care spectrum are selflessly rising to meet the needs of patients and their families- reinforcing the vital requirement to ensure we have a nursing workforce of caring, compassionate and highly skilled individuals who can deliver the care we are trained to do.”
Nicky Hughes, Associate Director of Nursing (Employment Relations), RCN Wales, said: “This report stresses the importance of valuing and advocating for our nursing staff. The current pandemic illustrates that Wales needs more registered nurses to deliver care, and a plan to ensure the numbers are increased in both the short and the long term. This means continuing to increase student nursing numbers and urgent measures to safeguard international recruitment and address retention.”
