The King’s birthday honours list celebrates the extraordinary contribution of notable nursing and midwifery staff across the UK.
This year RCN Fellow Dr Neslyn Watson-Druée (pictured), has received a DBE for services to women and ethnic minorities.
Neslyn has a long track record in nursing and the NHS, building the foundations for leadership development initiatives including the NHS breakthrough programme and being involved in the Mary Seacole scholarships.
She was awarded an MBE in 1998 and has been the recipient of a number of awards recognising her commitment to education and the advancement of women. She now runs her own business, providing career coaching to help people improve their leadership skills.
Other honour recipients include Dr Gary Mitchell, Chair of the RCN Older People’s Forum, who has received an MBE for services to nursing and dementia care. Gary is a senior lecturer at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen's University Belfast.
Ann Norman, formerly the RCN’s Professional Lead for Criminal Justice and Learning Disabilities, has been awarded a BEM for services to health care access.
RCN President Sheilabye Sobrany said: “Congratulations to all the nursing and health care staff who have been recognised in the King’s birthday honours. They should be enormously proud of their achievements.
“They represent the skill and dedication of all those in the profession who continue to step up for their patients every day of the week while facing continuing challenges and pressures.”
