Celebrating the very best in nursing, the annual RCN Awards present Fellowships, Honorary Fellowships and Awards of Merit to those who have made an outstanding contribution to nursing.
The South East region winners were:
- Professor Helen Allan, Professor of Nursing, Middlesex University, and Sussex member, was recognised as an RCN Fellow. Helen was nominated by her colleagues for her contribution to nursing research and education, in particular her work on racism in nursing and infertility.
- Ruth Bailey, QN and Sussex member was recognised as ‘Forum Committee Member of the Year’ for her work on the Women’s Health Forum. This was the first year RCN Forums were celebrated with two new categories.
- Sally Bassett, a Registered Nurse and Senior Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, has been recognised with an Award of Merit for her work as Chair of the RCN Forums Chairs Committee, and Chair of the RCN Nurses in Management and Leadership Forum.
- Dr Moyra Journeaux, Registered Nurse and Lecturer and Postgraduate Programme Manager at Harvey Bersterman Education Centre in Jersey, was recognised with an Award of Merit for her contribution to the RCN - notably through her roles on the Perioperative Forum Steering Committee and the Education Forum Steering Committee, and as a Scientific Conference Planning Committee member.
Ellen McNicholas, RCN South East Regional Director, said: “My heartfelt congratulations to all our South East members on receiving their awards. They are absolutely deserved and we are delighted Helen, Ruth, Sally and Moyra have been recognised in this way.”
The winners were presented with their awards at the RCN Awards ceremony which was held on the first night of RCN Congress 2023, Sunday 14 May, in Brighton.
