Nurses’ Day takes place annually on Florence Nightingale’s birthday (12 May), and is a celebration of the work of nursing staff in the UK and around the world.
Jeremy Hunt was invited to meet with the community nursing team by Lucy Wright, Clinical Lead for Community Clinical Systems at Royal Surrey County Hospital, to discuss the issues facing district nurses, and to celebrate the hard work of all those working in the community nursing teams.
Jeremy Hunt MP said: “I was delighted to spend some time meeting with District Nurses and Matrons at Milford hospital today. The work all nurses do is incredible and we should be extremely proud of their dedication and commitment to patients”.
Lucy Wright, said: “We are very proud to share the amazing work of our dedicated district nurses and community matrons and to discuss with Jeremy Hunt how to support and ensure the long term future of these vital roles.”
For Nurses’ Day 2018, the RCN is showcasing nurses’ dedication to delivering outstanding patient care and the innovative and diverse roles nurses have in health and care teams.
The RCN is also encouraging nursing staff to use the hashtag #ThisNurse to share stories of colleagues who went the extra mile to provide patient care and times which reminded them why there are nursing in 2018.
