Guernsey pay result

Results of the 2017-18 pay ballot.

4 Jun 2018

Nurses have voted overwhelmingly to accept the 2017-8 pay offer. 96% of those who voted said they would accept the offer which was made available at the start on May.

All RCN members employed by Health and Social Services were asked to vote between 9 May and 3 June. 44% of members voted in the ballot.

Julie Lewers, RCN Senior Officer says:

“We are pleased that we can now accept this offer and move forward. Whilst this offer isn’t perfect, it is a significant move in the right direction. Members have been without a pay award for some time and it took several frustrating months to be in a position where we could even put an offer to the members. Crucially, the States have also agreed to a complete review of the nursing pay system which is something that RCN members have been raising as vital to addressing the imbalance between the value of nursing roles in comparison to other public sector and civil service roles in the States. We welcome the news that an independent chair has been appointed and hope that this will address the deep rooted concerns around nurses terms and conditions and recruitment and retention. We will now focus all of our efforts on this review and I look forward to meeting members later this week to discuss what needs to be done.”

Members were asked to accept or reject the following offer which covers last years and this year’s increases:

  • A lump sum payment (not consolidated into basic pay) for the pay period 1 April 2017 – 31 March 2018. The lump sum payment will be equivalent to at least 2.5% of the top point of each band rounded up to the nearest £50. See below for amounts each band will get. This payment is subject to usual deductions.
  • 4.25% increase in basic pay from 1 April 2018 – 31 December 2018.
