Nurse historian Professor Claire Chatterton from Chester and Chorley nurse Anthony Clarkson, Director and Chief Nurse of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation at NHS Blood and Transplant, are both made Fellows. The RCN Fellowship recognises innovative individuals who have made an exceptional commitment to advancing the science and practice of nursing and the improvement of health and patient care. Also being honoured this year is Burnley nurse Karen English who has been named as RCN Steward of the Year. Karen has been seconded as a full-time rep for the past six years and has been recognised for her outstanding work in supporting her fellow members.
Mature student Clare Manley from Marple Bridge has been presented with the award for Student Ambassador of the Year for her work connecting with students across the Yorkshire and Humber region during her studies at Sheffield Hallam University. Read all about both Karen and Clare here.
The RCN Awards celebrate the hard work and dedication of outstanding members, and those individuals who have made a significant contribution to the nursing profession.
In each award category, nominations are made by RCN members and reviewed by an awards committee, made up of members elected to senior RCN roles.
Commenting on the awards, Regional Director of RCN North West, Estephanie Dunn, said: “The RCN Awards are presented to those who have made an outstanding contribution to nursing, either in their area of professional practice or in their support of their peers and colleagues. I am delighted to see the work of all of our winners recognised and wish to offer congratulations on behalf of the whole RCN North West team, they are all very much deserved.”
