Nurses working for Manx Care will be taking strike action from 8am to 8pm on Tuesday 25 July 2023. This follows the announcement of a ballot that took place across June where over 70% of those who voted, said they would be willing to take strike action.
Further details about picket lines will follow in due course and Royal College of Nursing members are encouraged to check their email inboxes for further information, advice and support regarding taking the action
This coming Tuesday, the Royal College of Nursing is also hosting a peaceful protest as part of the campaign for fair pay. A march will take place from Nobles Hospital on Tuesday 18 July from 9.15am and make its way to Villiers Square, via the Tynwald building where a small number of RCN officials and members will remain to observe the Tynwald session. The protest will then continue on for further demonstration in Villiers Square.
Members are being asked to note that this protest is not strike action and if they are on the rota to work during the march, they must attend. Members of the public who are ins support are also welcome to attend
The RCN’s Regional Director for the North West of England, Estephanie Dunn, said: “Taking strike action is a last resort and it’s incredibly sad that it has come to this. Our members feel ignored and cannot keep an already understaffed health service afloat on good will.
“The Government need to support Manx Care to build a stronger and more consistent workforce for the future, just plugging the gap by paying extortionate agency bills isn’t sustainable. Paying nursing staff a fair wage will support a much stronger and consistent nursing workforce, providing the safe and effective care patients on the Isle of Man deserve.
“Both our members and Manx Care need a resolution to this protracted pay dispute, but there has been enough talk. The resolution needs to involve paying our nurses on the Isle of Man fairly for the highly skilled care they deliver.”
