Do you work at the Freeman Hospital? We'll be there on 5 and 6 October to talk to you about job evaluation and the band 5 review in England.
How much do you know about job evaluation, the new national nursing job profiles, and how this affects how much you get paid?
We'll be visiting the Freeman Hospital across two days to speak to you about all this and more.
Come and speak to us. We'll be in the staff restaurant at the Freeman Hospital. As well as presentations to talk you through job evaluation, there will be an opportunity to ask us about what you can be doing now and what to expect. Details below.
Look out for us around the wards too where we'll be speaking to you and handing out further information and resources.
Monday 5 October:
- RCN stand in the staff restaurant, ground floor from 10am – 4pm
Tuesday 6 October:
- RCN stand in the staff restaurant, ground floor from 10am – 4pm
- Presentation in training room 4. 10 – 11am (Band 5 staff) | 11 – 11:30am (Manager drop-in session)
Why this matters
Last year, new national nursing profiles were published; these are used as part of the job evaluation process. This, in turn, determines the pay bands for all NHS roles on Agenda for Change contracts.
Your job description is a crucial part of this and needs to be an accurate reflection of your role.
The government has instructed NHS employers in England to review every band 5 job description, but this is just the start. All nursing jobs should be reviewed or have recently undergone a review against these new profiles – no matter which band you’re on.
This is your opportunity to speak to us and highlight your concerns so you feel empowered to engage with the job evaluation process.

Who will I be able to speak to?
During our visits, in addition to our staff and representatives, you'll be able to meet the pay delivery officer for your region.
Northern Pay Delivery Officer Scott Inglis
Scott qualified as a registered mental health nurse in 1996 at Dingleton Hospital in the Scottish Borders.
He then worked across Berkshire and South Oxfordshire in forensic and psychiatric intensive care before moving to Cumbria to manage the secure services there.
In 2005, Scott moved to higher education, designing and delivering courses at diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels with a focus on gamification and digital simulation. During this time, he became active in the higher education union, UCU (University College Union), as branch chair as well as regional vice-chair.
Scott moved into full time union work with the NEU (National Education Union) in October 2025 and is currently seconded to the RCN as pay delivery officer for the northern region.
