Responding to the Care Quality Commission's urgent and emergency care survey 2022, RCN Director for England, Patricia Marquis, said:
“The Care Quality Commission report lays bare the stark pressures that nurses working in A&E and urgent care departments face every day of the year.
“Nursing staff are doing everything they can to care for their patients under enormous pressure, and the added strain of over 40,000 vacant NHS nursing posts in England.
“Nursing staff and patients cannot wait for things to improve. The recent NHS Workforce Plan for England is a start, but we are asking the government for more detail on how it will address the growing risk to patient care.”
