NMC consultation on post-registration standards
The Nursing and Midwifery Council's consultation on post registration standards is now complete and has moved into the next phase.
The next phase will include analysis of the consultation responses and stakeholder engagements to identify recommendations for the new post registration standards. Meetings will commence in the coming weeks and the RCN continues to be a key stakeholder.
The review took place in November 2019 and had a number of RCN contributors through its steering group or respective Expert Groups. The review acknowledged that this work was long overdue, with the standards being last updated in 2004 and current practice not being reflected in the existing standards.
The consultation sought member responses to standards relating to Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) on Health Visiting, Occupational Health Nurses and School Nurses as well as for Specialist Practice Qualification (SPQs) for District Nurses, General Practice Nurses, Community Learning Disabilities Nurses, Community Children’s Nurses and Community Mental Health Nurses.
