Luke knew a little about general and children's nursing when he was thinking about his future career, but the RCN cadet scheme showed him so many other nursing careers he didn't know were possible.
The RCN’s cadet scheme gives young people a practical taste of nursing and midwifery, potentially inspiring their future career. Running at different locations in all four UK countries, the scheme is targeted at those aged 16 to 25. It takes around 60 hours to complete, with a third of that time spent watching nursing staff in action, while the rest involves training provided by our education or youth organisation partners.
Watch Luke describe how his experience as a cadet helped him decide on a career in mental health nursing.
