Campaign for fair pay at the Care Plus Group
RCN Yorkshire and the Humber is campaigning for a meaningful pay award for staff employed by CPG and pay parity with NHS employers.
CPG is a social enterprise organisation providing adult health and social care services to the NHS but employs its staff outside of NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions.
As part of the campaign CPG members took strike action from late 2023 through to January 2024. Members are continuing to meet to discuss next steps in this campaign and we are continuing to put pressure on both Care Plus Group (CPG) and the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) and calling on them to
- Urgently discuss how to resolve the current pay dispute.
- Work to ensure that nursing staff employed by CPG are paid the same as their NHS colleagues on Agenda for Change pay rates.

Industrial strike action
In July, the RCN balloted members employed by CPG on whether they would be willing to take industrial strike action for better pay and parity with nursing staff employed by the NHS on Agenda for Change terms and conditions of employment.
The postal ballot, which was conducted by an independent scrutineer, closed on 25 July 2023. A majority of RCN members who responded to the ballot voted in favour of strike action with 93% of those who voted, voting ‘yes’. Read more here.
RCN members employed by CPG took strike action on a number of dates from August 2023 through to January 2024. RCN members also held a march around Grimsby town centre in October, December and again in January.
The last strike action was taken from 7.00am on Monday 22 January to 8.00pm on Wednesday 24 January 2024 (inclusive).
'We receive £5,000 a year less than our NHS counterparts’

Further background
So far CPG have refused to enter into any meaningful discussions with the RCN to settle this pay dispute.
CPG and the Humber and North Yorkshire ICB could resolve this dispute quickly by ensuring that nursing staff employed by CPG are paid the same as their NHS colleagues. You can read more background here.
