Reason you chose this book

I was given one when very young and the images stayed with me, perhaps subconsciously for many years. I wanted the uniform (only ever had one episode of wearing and apron) and I did actually manage the singing carols at Christmas in my cape...

Review

This was one of a series of lady bird books focusing on working lives, and the working lives of real people. I think it was the only one which looked at a predominantly female career. There were a lot of pictures of nurses in traditional apron and cap uniforms and some statements about nurses doing what the doctors told them to, but for a young child, it gave an image of a career of helping and working with people, especially children, which was very attractive.
